Obituary for Betty Brown

Betty L. Brown, 81, of Hernando, MS passed away peacefully on Sunday, 1/30/2022 while
surrounded by her loving family. She was diagnosed with a rare form of Lung and Liver Cancer on
Friday, 1/27/2022. Visitation will be held at Hernando Funeral Home in Hernando, MS on Saturday, 2/5,
from 12-2 pm with the Funeral at 2 pm.
Betty was born in New Albany, MS on 10/10/40. She was the youngest of 7 children. She didn't
like being left behind so she started school a year early because she kept following her siblings to school.
At the age of 16, she graduated high school and moved to Memphis, TN to attend Business School.
In February 1959, Betty met Lonnie Brown at the bus station in New Albany, MS. After 9
months of dating, they were married in November 1959. During their life together, they enjoyed fishing,
camping, and gardening. After 57 years of marriage, Lonnie passed away in 2017. Once widowed, Betty
continued her love of cooking, baking, and working in her vegetable garden and beautiful flower beds.
Betty was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Hernando, MS. She made some special
friendships at Parkway. She enjoyed volunteering at church whenever and wherever she was needed.
Her passion was Operation Christmas Child (OCC). Every year she volunteered her time packing shoe
boxes for OCC. She would tell everyone she met about OCC and how important and special this
program is to her.
Betty is survived by two daughters, Teresa Pitcock (John) and Melonia Orman (Brad), 3
grandsons Chris Pitcock (Tori), John Matt Pitcock, and Payton Orman, and one great-granddaughter Lily
Pitcock, along with one nephew and 3 nieces. In lieu of flowers, please send donations for OCC in
memory of Betty Brown. Please mail donations to Parkway Baptist Church, c/o OCC, 50 North Parkway
Street, Hernando, MS 38632.
