Betty Joyce Young, who loved to be called “Memaw” by her grandchildren, departed her loving family on January 11, 2021.
Joyce was born in Memphis, TN on May 15, 1936 to Alice and Cecil Boswell.
Joyce was mother to Renee Holley and step mother to Karen Ockerhausen, Sandra Stocks and Charlotte Burns. She raised her children with love and devotion in Hernando, MS with her husband Jimmy Young.
As a Legal secretary, Joyce was known for her outgoing personality and generosity. She retired from the Austin Law Firm in 1997 to take on her new full-time job as “Memaw”. Her hobbies included her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to cook, read recipe books, can vegetables and jelly and talk on the phone.
She is survived by her husband Jimmy Young, her daughter Renee Holley (husband Chad Holley and daughters Lauren Butler, Katelyn Holley and Brittany Williams), her step daughters Karen Ockerhausen (husband Charlie and sons Bryan and Brandon and daughter Jamie), Sandra Stocks (husband Paul and sons Timothy and Collin) and Charlotte Burns (husband Jerry and son Joshua). Her grandchildren, Lauren Butler, Katelyn Holley, and Brittany Williams all of Hernando. Her great-grandchildren Eli and Michael Butler. Her nieces Deborah Monday and Alicia Wilson.
Visitation will be held 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. January 17, 2021 at Hernando Funeral Home 2285 Hwy 51 South Hernando, MS 38632.
Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. Sunday January 17, 2021 at Oak Grove Cemetery Hernando, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
