Carolyn, also known as Mama C, Mama Carolyn, and Gaucky by her beloved granddaughter, Sarah Spires, lived a fulfilling life as an amazing mother, grandmother, mentor, and friend. She loved dancing, reading, and gardening. She began her career in the early 1970's as a hairdresser and opened The Hair Shoppe, in Hernando, with a partner in 1980. She attended psychology classes at Northwest Community College in 1984. She enjoyed a long and successful career until she retired in 2014. During retirement she spent her time painting, decorating, making jewelry, and lunching with friends. Her happy place was on the beach with her feet in the sand.
Born in Little Rock, AK to William and Freda Haynie. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Haynie, Freda Murphy, Stepfather Charles Murphy, her son, David Buchanan, and her granddaughter, Kristi Buchanan. She leaves behind her daughters, Shawna Wallace (Mike) of Hernando and Tonya Buchanan of Memphis. She leaves behind seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and free spirit will truly be missed by all. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday at Hernando Funeral Home followed by a memorial service 2 p.m. Friday at Hernando Funeral Home Chapel.
