Obituary for Cheryl Gowen
Cheryl O' Kelley Gowen, age 69, passed away on September 26th, 2022 at Azalea Commons in Batesville, MS. Funeral services will held on Wednesday, September 28th, 2022 at 2 pm at Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando, MS. Visitation will be held the same day from 1-2 pm also at Hernando United Methodist Church. Cheryl was born on May 4, 1953 to Virginia Crouch O'Kelley Bratton & Bobby Leland O' Kelley. Cheryl was the elder sibling to Caryl Jo Brown. Straight from high school she went to work for J. Strickland & Company until she retired there at the age of 66. Cheryl loved her friends & family fiercely. She is known for her caring heart & her soft spoken voice. She enjoyed attending monthly dinners with her "dinner club" during the week, shopping and spending time with her friends.
She married Jerry in December of 2007 and enjoyed almost 15 short years together. The couple retired in Batesville, close to their one daughter, son in law, and 2 grandchildren. Cheryl enjoyed gardening, crafting, being a grandmother & a wife. Dear friends were Cheryl's favorite pastime. Among other activities, Cheryl loves to read, cut scriptures from books and was a firm believer in the Lord. She also had a special love for animals, especially her dog Brooke.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her only sister, Caryl Jo O'Kelley Brown, great grandparents: Alfred & Bessie O'Kelley, Marshall & Lillie Belle Crouch, and her father in law, Jerry "Hoot" Gowen, SR.
She is survived by her spouse, Jerry H. Gowen, JR. One daughter Ashley Gowen Reed (Chris), Two grandchildren, Sara Brooke Dever, John Robert Reed and granddaughter on the way Blakley Gowen Reed. Her mother in law, Jane Wilbanks Gowen.
One aunt Barbara Crouch Carter (Wayne), One niece Bridgette Rankin Justice (James), and two great nieces, Kylie Carver &
Jeree Justice.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial contribution in Cheryl's name to Hernando United Methodist Church or the Hernando Animal Shelter.
