David Bruce Yelverton, 66, of Hernando, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2023.
David was born on January 3rd, 1957, to Lucetta and Leo Yelverton. He attended Whitehaven High School from 1972-1973. David grew up in the Catholic Church and was steadfast in his faith. He drew a great sense of purpose from volunteering his time in the church through his role as a lector, participating in stations of the cross, and bearing the gifts with family. During his early years, he enjoyed road racing and competed in several races across the country. He later pursued a career in industrial sales and recently retired from his position of Regional Vice President of Sales for Midwest Finishing Systems. Although his racing career ended, his love of cars persisted throughout his life. David made fond memories working on cars with his son, teaching his children how to drive, teaching a defensive driving course for state troopers, as well as becoming a driving instructor at the Memphis International Raceway. He loved to teach others and felt a great sense of pride in sharing his skills and knowledge with anyone he could. David was also an avid gun enthusiast and outdoorsman. He loved going to the gun range, golf course, and the race track any chance he could. He greatly enjoyed time outdoors with his children hiking, camping, and working in the yard. David loved spending time with family and his competitive nature came out during his favorite games, Scrabble and Pictionary. David was known at home, and at work, for his sense of humor. He always had a special way of making people laugh with his unique catch phrases. He also had a vast curiosity for outer space and would watch his favorite movie, The Martian, on repeat. This curiosity about the world fueled his love of traveling and exploring new places. David touched many lives, and his memory will live on in all who knew and love him.
