Obituary for George Woodrow Yarbrough Jr.

George Woodrow Yarbrough, Jr, 70, passed away March 7th, 2022 at his home with his beloved wife after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

George was born January 29th, 1952 to George Woodrow Yarbrough and Celia Willie (Ming). He spent his youth in Frayser playing music with his friends in a band they started in middle school. Celia let the boys practice at her house and they nearly shook the walls down. He graduated from West Side High School in 1970 and spent his life working mostly in management. He spent around 18 years with Holiday Corporation, a little over a decade with Sully Vans, and retired from his position as shift manager after over 20 years with Horseshoe Casino in 2013.

George was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry Yarbrough. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patty (Chisum), his bonus daughter, Mary Joyce (David Howle), brother James Yarbrough (Maxine), sister Joan Ford (Bill), 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

George spent his life playing guitar, making things with his hands, building things, boating, helping people, spoiling Patty, and making people laugh.

A celebration of life will be held at Hernando Funeral Home, Saturday, March 12th, 2022 from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in George's name to the Tunica Humane Society.
