Gussie Schaeffer, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and friend to many passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 31, 2022.
She was born September 13th, 1942, on the family farm near Joiner, Arkansas to John Augustus McClendon and Estelle McClendon.
Gussie graduated from Houlka High School in Houlka, MS.
She was happily married to Robert Schaeffer.
Their blended family shared 12 Grandchildren and well over a dozen great grandchildren.
Gussie loved working in her flower garden. She also looked forward to preparing elaborate meals for special occasions and holidays when she would always make the most delicious desserts. Family and friends always looked forward to her peach cobbler, cheesecake and her chocolate pies!
Her favorite activity was traveling to their farm in Senatobia with Robert each day. They would spend time with their dog Lucy and the cattle.
Traveling was a big part of their life.
Gussie was a very energetic grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert S. Schaeffer and son Bob Schaeffer.
Gussie is survived by her children Pam Brunner and her husband Billy of Oxford, MS, Tim Barnette and his wife Diana of Hernando, MS, Scott Schaeffer and his wife Leslie of Southaven MS, and Christy Schaeffer Southerland of Coldwater MS.
Grandchildren Joey Brunner and wife Dana of Water Valley, MS, Jason Brunner and his wife Nicole of Oxford, MS, Rachael and Luke Barnette of Hernando, MS
Brothers John McClendon and wife Pam of Houlka, MS and
Pat Houston and wife Martha of Houlka, MS.
The family will be receiving friends from 10-12 pm, Wednesday, August 3rd with services beginning at 12 pm. Interment to follow at Hernando Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family to donate in her memory to St. Jude.
