Obituary for Harlan Clifford Watts

Harlan Clifford Watts, age 93, passed away on January 20, 2022 with his loving family by his side at home at Koko Reef Lake.
Harlan will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley Carothers Watts; daughters, Diane Chaney and husband Steve of Biloxi, MS, Debra Tyler of Biloxi, MS , Ruth Anne Gammell of Southaven, MS; seven grandchildren Kimberly Chaney, Allen Chaney, Brian Chaney, Robyn Pounds, Traci Gammell, Kellye Shearon, Jenny Baker; eleven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and precious friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Edward and Ruth Virginia Flack Watts and son-in-law, Robert Tyler.
Harlan was born April 17, 1928 in Brewer, Lee County, Mississippi. Harlan was a graduate of Southside High School in Memphis. He also graduated from the University of Mississippi with a BS in civil engineering. He was former partner of W&W Construction Company. He was past President of HASCO Inc. General Contractors.
He served as President of the Associated General Contractors of Memphis Chapter, Associated General Contractors of Tennessee Chapter, Associated Builders and Contractors of West Tennessee, Whitehaven Care Center, Waterford Plaza HOA and Koko Reef HOA. He was National Director of Associated General Contractors for 17 years.
He was a Life Member of the Engineers Club of Memphis, Whitehaven Kiwanis Club, and Associated Builders and Contractors of West Tennessee.
Harlan was a Korean War Veteran. He served in the Army with the 844th Engineering Battalion in Cold Bay Alaska in 1953. He served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1951 to 1958.
He was a member of Hernando United Methodist Church. Before moving to Hernando, he was a member of Parkway Methodist Church and Grace United Methodist Church where he was on the Administrative Board.
Visitation is to be held at 1 pm on January 25th at Hernando United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service following at 2 pm. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown in Memphis.
In lieu of flowers one may make a donation to the charity of one’s choice or to Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando, Mississippi.
