Obituary for Jerry Franklin Byard

Jerry Franklin Byard, 80, a resident of Senatobia, passed away on Sunday, April 9th, 2023.
Born in Nesbit, MS August 6th, 1942, Jerry attended Hernando High School. He was married
on May 26th of 1967 and shared 55 years with his loving wife, Peggy. While he was a man of
many passions, Jerry endured the last 18 of his 25 year career to Roadway Express as a truck
driver. He retired in 1995 with the “Million Safe Driving Miles” Award within the city limits of
Memphis. Jerry was also a lifetime member of the Ole Miss Loyalty Foundation and the
National Rifle Association. He loved his family, hunting, fishing, riding his lawnmower, the Ole
Miss Rebels, hollerin’ at Fox News, talking politics and expressing his many opinions. He also
loved cooking, especially baking Coca Cola cakes for family and friends. Jerry was well known
among his community and he always saw someone he knew, no matter where he went.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Peggy, two children, Jerry Byard II (Stacie) of Southaven, MS and
Tina Knowlton (Patrick) of Clarksville, TN, two brothers, Kenneth of Memphis and Charlie of
Millington, TN, four grandchildren, Anna, Carley, Sarah, and Jeremiah, and one soon to arrive
great-granddaughter, Emory.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Byard, and two brothers, John
“Junior” Byard and Joseph “Buddy” Byard.
Visitation will be Monday, April 17th, 2023 from 12:00pm-2:00pm at Hernando Funeral Home
with services to follow. Burial will be at Hinds Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in
Lake Cormorant immediately after the service.
Flowers are welcome or donations can be made in Jerry’s name to the Tunnels to Towers
Foundation.
The Byard family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the ICU staff of Baptist Desoto
Hospital and Jerry’s care team at Senatobia Health Care and Rehabilitation.
