Obituary for Jimmy C. Hollingsworth Sr.

Jim was born in Vardaman, Mississippi, the youngest of eight children. He attended Tunica High School and graduated in 1959. Jim was a star football player in high school as a fullback. He went on to play college ball as an accomplished punter.

Jim met Ann Counts in high school at Tunica. They were married on December 15, 1961 in New Albany, Mississippi. In 1964, they welcomed their daughter Sherri into the world in Alexandria, Louisiana where Jim was playing football.

Jim furthered his athletic career in the Continental Football League for the Charleston Rockets in West Virginia. There, his two sons, Jimmy Jr. (1966) and Greg (1970) were born. Eventually, with the family growing, Jim started working for an asphalt paving company in Charleston.

Jim, Ann, and children relocated to Memphis to be closer to family. In 1979, Jim started Hollingsworth Paving. Over the years, he became a respected anchor in the Memphis construction industry. Jim loved to see construction and desired to create a family atmosphere for all who worked at Hollingsworth Paving.

Most would easily say Jim’s passions were his wife, children, grandchildren, and GOLF. Jim enjoyed watching golf, playing golf, and talking golf. He had many golf buddies that he loved and they loved him. He looked forward to his yearly golf trips with friends.

Jim was a role model for living an honest, dependable, and loyal life to his friends, family, and coworkers. His faith in God never wavered and was a comfort to him in life and death.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Clara Hollingsworth, brothers Milton, Ralph, and Bobby Hollingsworth, and sisters Virginia Morgan, Myrl Armstrong, and Lou Swaim.

He leaves behind his wife Ann of 61 years, his children Sherri Hollingsworth Wright (Dennis), Jimmy Hollingsworth Jr. (Taunee), and Greg Hollingsworth, along with his grandchildren Hunter and Brandon Wright (Haven), Zach and Noah Hollingsworth, Robert Smith (Young), Jocelyn Brunoette (Denis), two great-grandchildren Jack and Ward Wright, and a sister Grace Young.
