Obituary for "Rena"
Maria Elena Garis Austin, 79, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at her home in Hernando, Mississippi. “Miss Rena” known to many, spent most of her adult life taking care of her children, grandchildren, and working at local Mother’s Day Out church programs, as well as teaching 3 year old Sunday school at Hernando Baptist Church and Parkway Baptist Church.
She is survived by her twin brother, George Fredrick Garis III of Marietta, Georgia; children, Allen (Heather) Austin, and Julie (Bubba) Sowell; and 6 grandchildren who knew her as Mimi. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Austin, her parents, and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 4 from 5-7 pm at Hernando Funeral Home located at 2285 Hwy 51 South, Hernando, Mississippi.
