On June 21, 2022, Susan Rae Chmidling went home to Jesus after battling a long illness. Susan was born October 14, 1951 to John and Inger Rupert Martin of Effingham, KS, the ninth birth of twelve children. She graduated high school from ACCHS in Efffingham, KS in 1969. Not long thereafter, she married John Bernard Chmidling, but later divorced in 1995. During the marriage, they were blessed with one daughter, Jennifer (Joe) Mason, of Lake Cormorant, MS. She worked at Fort Leavenworth until her retirement in 2005 and subsequently worked for the City of Leavenworth. Susan was blessed with two grandchildren, Audrey and Connor, whom she adored so much, she moved to Mississippi to be closer to them. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents Ida Hale, John and Maude Truitt Martin, three sisters, Virgina Martin, Margaret Wagner, and Lucille Chmidling along with two brothers, John (Big J) and Donald. She is survived by brothers, Lloyd Martin, Kansas City, KS, Dale Martin, Dennis Martin, Brian, and Gerald (Janette) Martin, all of Effingham, along with a sister Willa Luthi, Tecumseh, MO. Susan is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Susan was cremated and her ashes will be taken home to Kansas to carry out her wishes.
