Obituary for Thomas Michael Finney Sr.
On 15 Dec 2022, Thomas Michael Finney Sr, “Mike,” a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away. He was 72 years old. Mike was born on 22 July 1950 to Linden S Finney and his biological mother in South bend, IN.
Mike was raised by Vianna (Finney) and Thurman Birmingham, sharecropping cotton in North East Arkansas, with his brothers, sisters, and several cousins. He later moved to South Bend, IN where he attended South Bend Riley High school. He married the love of his life, Catherine Ann Finney on 24 October 1970.
Mike entered the United States Army in 1971 and served during the Vietnam War as an Army medic. Following his military service, Mike owned and operated Finney’s Barbershop and worked in maintenance at Steel Warehouse. Mike retired from Steel Warehouse, Inc in 2015 as a Maintenance Foreman after 38 years of service.
Mike was known for his deep, caring connection to others, especially his family.
One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren. His family and his companion animals brought great joy to his life. He especially enjoyed Notre Dame football, fishing, horse shoes, bowling, baseball, softball, and other sports.
Mike took joy teaching life skills and instilling a hard work ethic in his children, to their great benefit.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Catherine Ann Finney; his daughter Alison Kilgore and her husband Marty Kilgore, of Bartlett TN; his son Thomas Michael Finney Jr and his wife Amanda Finney, of Plainfield IN; his son Randy Finney and his wife Rebecca Finney, of Hernando, MS; 13 grand children and 2 great-grand children
Funeral services will be held at Hernando Funeral Home at 2285 Hwy 51S, Hernando, MS, 38632 on 28 Dec 2022, 10AM -2PM followed by a military committal service at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery
