Obituary for Walter Eugene "Gene" Norwood
Walter Eugene (Gene) Norwood passed away November 24, 2020. With origins in Love Station, he was a lifelong resident of Hernando, MS. He was born January 12, 1945, and was a graduate of Hernando High School, Northwest MS Community College, and did additional study at the University of Memphis. He served in the U. S. Army, with a tour of duty in Vietnam.
He was a member of Hernando United Methodist Church, served on the City of Hernando Board of Aldermen, and was active in the real estate business in DeSoto County for many years.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Janie Thompson Norwood, sons Jeff Norwood and wife, Paige, of Hernando, and Greg Norwood and wife, Erin, of Brentwood, TN, and five grandchildren, Avery Norwood, Mari Mason Norwood, Austin Norwood, Ellie Norwood, and Anna Norwood.
There will be a family graveside service Saturday morning, November 28, and a drive through visitation in the parking lot of Hernando United Methodist Church beginning at 1:00.
